Over 40 years ago, President John F. Kennedy laid a challenge before the American people. He said, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” What can we Christian Americans do for our country?

The Apostle Paul lived under the rule of the Roman Empire. In fact, he was a Roman citizen doing his best to obey the Roman law. Even though the Roman government was far from perfect, the Apostle Paul saw that it was his responsibility to do what he could for his government and all those in authority. What can we do for our country?

1. We must pray fervently (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority… (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Do you pray for our country? If you don’t pray for our country then now is the time to start. Do you pray for revival in our land? Do you pray for the defeat of Satan’s plan for our country? Don’t ever discount the power of prayer. Don’t ever make the excuse that it won’t do any good.

This passage says to pray for “kings and all that are in authority.” Do you pray for President Obama? Do you pray he would make wise decisions? Do you pray for our other national leaders? We have an awesome privilege to influence the leadership of our nation by praying for them.

2. We must live faithfully (1 Timothy 2:2).

…that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. (1 Timothy 2:2)

Good Christians make good citizens. In fact, the best, most diligent, most honest, most loyal, most patriotic citizens of the United States of America should be dedicated Christians.

I’ve heard church people boast about how they break ‘minor’ laws. Not only do they make the job of the authorities harder, but they set a bad example in front of those not committed to Christ. They disregard the law. What right do they have to encourage a sinner to obey the authorities, or the laws of God?

We ought to be the ones that our government can count on to be honest, law abiding citizens.

3. We must witness fruitfully (1 Timothy 2:3-4).

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3-4)

Do you want to know one of the key ways that you can help our nation? Lead our countrymen to Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only hope for our country.

America will never be good just because we elect the right leaders into position. It takes a grass root revival of good and decent morals among the common citizens to make a difference in our country.

America is only as good as its people. We can try to get all the right leaders elected. We can try to get all the right amendments brought in. But in reality, the final decision will lie with the of people in this country. The people, whether good or bad, are going to take this country one way or another. Let’s do our part to see that the people are Christians.

What will you do for America today?
