Wednesday – March 16 in Seoul, Korea
It was a full day in Korea. I attended the morning and evening sessions and an afternoon meeting of the 2016 Global Meeting of the Baptist Bible Fellowship International (BBFI). The theme for the day is Look Inward! We must know ourself and fan an evangelistic fire if we are going to reach the world with the Gospel. We heard from 8 men today…
Remote People Hear about Jesus
Jiwseoung Lee is a Korean missionary in Indonesia. He referenced Matthew 28:19 when he reminded us of Jesus’ command to go into ‘all’ the world. Even remote people groups who have never heard about Jesus. Since he 2013 he has worked with a former cannibal tribe the Morop in Papua, Indonesia. The only access to their home is by small airplane. They are extremely primitive. Their food consists of monkey, python, grubs and even skunk. Disease is rampant. But their greatest need is against Spiritism. They fear the spirits of the dead and don’t know how to escape this dark life. They are trusting the missionary to tell them the truth to set them free.
Persecuted Returns to His Persecutors
Sever Gonciulea was saved in 1982 in Romania. He and his family were persecuted under communism. But they escaped to America in 1987. The soon became involved in a BBFI church in California. During a missions conference they surrendered to return back to Romania as missionaries. In 2,000 the became BBFI missionaries to Romania.
Look at Yourself
Gerardo G. Nalle is pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Philippines. He encouraged us from Proverbs 29:18 and John 4:35. We must have “A vision of ourselves in the harvest”. Our vision defines our task and daily accomplishment. It bring purpose, direction, and dependance on God. God doesn’t see us for what we are or aren’t but for what we could and will be. To see ourselves in the harvest means:
- Seeing ourselves as sinners who have received grace from God.
- Seeing God in ourselves. We’re not much, but Someone in us is.
- Seeing ourselves with God in the Harvest. Christ commanded us to go but also said He would go with us.
- Seeing ourselves with God means we can: (1) send out missionaries, (2) plant more churches to be strong in reaching the world, (3) partner together with other churches of like faith while standing for truth.
There was a men’s meeting with four different missions opportunities:
- Paul Byers talked about Asia Baptist Clearing House. The 10/40 window (area in Europe, Africa & Asia between 10 & 40 degrees north of the Equator) is the least reached region in the world. The three religions most antagonistic against Christianity (Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism) are prominent. Asian missionaries are available to enter this area. ABC has 101 church planting missionary families in the 10/40 window. See www.abclear.org.
- Bruce O’Neil helped feed the poor while a missionary in the Philippines. Neighors wanted to help so he trained them and many became Christians, bringing family and friends to church. So, Bruce started a worldwide program (Manna Worldwide) to help missionaries start churches by having a feeding center or school in the neighborhood. See www.mannaworldwide.com.
- Richard Lewis trains people to go cross-culture. Most unsaved do not cross cultural boundaries to hear the Gospel and most saved do not cross cultural boundaries to tell it. Some of the boundaries mentioned are: language, socio-economic status, location, gender, age, special needs, religion, and caste/tribe. If we are going to reach the world we must be able to enter the culture of the world. See www.Lewis-Training.com.
- David Jones shared about the Islamic uprising and the refugee problem. Islamic terrorists, civil war, and failing governments have left 60 million people without a home. Displaced people have become the fastest growing people group in the world. They are a nation without borders. God is at work in this crisis drawing people to Himself. Like Jesus, we are to reach out to the poor and needy. Many are from Muslim countries. At one time it was near impossible to get the gospel to them. But now they are in a place they can be reached. So what can we do: (1) Look for displaced people around you. (2) Support those working in this harvest. (3) Pray for more laborers, those involved to be faithful, the displaced, and Muslim-background believers. See www.project99.help).
50 Years of Mission Work in Japan Honored
I
n addition, Ken Board was also honored for 50 years as a BBFI missionary in Japan. The Japanese churches presented him with a plaque with his late wife’s favorite flower painted on it. The BBFI Missions Office presented him with a beautiful globe. He is still serving in Japan.
This was a day of hope! The burden of a lost world without Christ can be heavy. So much to do of eternal importance. But God is at work. Let us join Him in reaching the world for Christ.
PLEASE give to missions. Go to a mission field. Pray for more missionaries.
