Today is Thanksgiving Day. I think the ultimate thanks goes to God and His Son Jesus Christ for what They have done.
There is a future Thanksgiving Day that is an expression of gratitude that goes well beyond any you have experienced or could experience in this life. I encourage you to read Revelation 4 & 5 to understand the context. But I want to highlight two main verses
Revelation 4:11 – Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
This has been called ‘The song of creation.’ It is a song of thanks because God is the Creator of all things. God is worthy of all praise and worship because of two basic things we should always remember: It was His power that created all things and it is His purpose (will) that brought everything into existence and gives meaning to it all. The world today does not give honor to the Lord God. Though all benefit from His goodness and live in a universe of His creation, they tend to neglect the worship of God. I hope you will be thankful to our Creator God this holiday.
Revelation 5:12 – Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.
This has been called ‘The song of redemption.’ It is a song of thanks to Jesus because He is the Savior of mankind. There has never been a greater understatement about anyone than ‘worthy is the Lamb that was slain.’ In a day when many people are unwilling to acknowledge Jesus Christ as more than a ‘good man’ or a ‘model example,’ we should be reminded of what the angels of heaven, who know Him best, will say of Him. They proclaim Him worthy to receive seven things – power, riches, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing – which far outshadows any honor due to mortal man.
We will one day participate in that Heavenly scene, but even now we can enjoy the privilege of exalting Him. As Paul exhorts us, whatever we do, let us do it the glory of God (1 Cor. 10:31).
